Product Description

Plon, 1963. Comb bound. Very Good.

Published in 1963, this is a long-admired children’s cookbook—a delightful selection of everyday French dishes, simply presented but rigorously authentic, and charmingly illustrated by the author.

It is the first of a series of highly successful books (others cover patisserie, hors d’oeuvres, etc) done by Michel Oliver, son of the great gourmand and restaurateur Raymond Oliver. From soupe a l’oignon to a real handmade mayonnaise, it offers a succession of treats that will inspire young cooks and at the same time expose them to a substantial and useful French culinary vocabulary.

This is an excellent first printing copy, in French—some soiling and staining to the boards and interior, though largely clean. The plastic comb is intact. French poet Jean Cocteau begins his preface, “Les enfants et les poètes aiment ‘désobéir’”—“Children and poets like to disobey.” No doubt, much fun will follow.
