Product Description

Hyperion, 1993. Hardcover. Near Fine in Near Fine jacket. First printing.

Being specialists ourselves, we attract a fair number of enthusiasts, customers who are captivated by the arcane or who might be consumed by the need to read everything ever written on a particular subject.

Artist Jeffrey Tennyson (1952–2006) was just that type of person. Some might call the owner of the largest hamburger memorabilia collection obsessive; we say devoted.

Tennyson put his passion to the page for this 1993 book called Hamburger Heaven. Supported by hundreds of historical photos, ads, and illustrations—some even his own—Tennyson tells the history of the American hamburger. From Germans departing the port of Hamburg in the early 19th century who brought their beloved broiled chopped steak dish to the US to Delmonico’s—the New York City restaurant credited as the first to have hamburger steak on their menu—the ground beef patty on a bun evolved.

Maybe not the final word on the subject, but certainly an enjoyable and entertaining tour through culinary history. We are pleased to offer an unused first printing, Near Fine in a NF jacket, showing only minor evidence of shelfwear. Good fun.
